Over the years, many hearing aid users have been forced to make sacrifices when it comes to the quality of sound delivered through their phones.

Many hearing aid users have found it difficult to hear calls, especially if other background noise cuts in.

Listening to music from their phone might have required a special device, especially if they wanted to listen to that music without disturbing others around them.

While added accessories, like the Telecoil, could make some streaming possible, they didn't offer the high-quality sound experience, and convenience many hearing aid users are looking for. Now, Android users have a new option: Bluetooth streaming directly to ReSound hearing aids.

New Technology, New Opportunities

Google and ReSound have now co-developed Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids, or ASHA for the Android 10 operating system.

This technology permits users to stream music and calls directly to their hearing aid device without the use of any additional accessories.

For many hearing aid users, this allows unprecedented convenience and freedom.

Users no longer have to worry about clunky additional devices or missing out on all the experiences their phones can offer.

Now, if you want to stream music, you can do it directly to your hearing aids, with nothing else in between. Want to listen to a call? Whether you need to shut out other background noises or allow some of them to come through so that you can safely navigate your surroundings, the ReSound app delivers convenience, accessibility, and control in a way that Android users have never experienced before.

Is Your Device Compatible?

Currently, ASHA technology is available to users of the most recently released ReSound hearing aids, the ReSound LiNX Quattro hearing aids.

Google Pixel 3 line of smartphones and Samsung Galaxy 9’s and 10’s.

If you aren’t currently using these devices, you may need to upgrade to experience the full advantages offered by your advanced ReSound hearing aids.

To check if your device is compatible, download the ReSound Smart 3D app in the Google Play store. Click the “Getting Started” icon and follow the prompts on the screen.

If your device is compatible, you will receive a screen showing that your hearing aids are already paired and ready to use (picture 1).

Otherwise, you will either receive error warnings indicating that 1. you need to change your settings to use the device (picture 2) or 2. your device is not compatible (picture 3).

If your device is not compatible with Android 10, speak with your carrier about how to upgrade your device.

Getting Started

If you’re interested in using ReSound hearing aids and ASHA technology, getting started is simple. First, download the latest version of the ReSound Smart 3D app.

Follow the prompts on the screen to connect to your hearing aids and make sure there are no compatibility issues (see instructions above.)

Then, you’re ready to start using direct audio streaming.

Would you like to listen to a movie with the audio streamed directly to your hearing aids? Do you want to listen to your music directly in your ears, through your hearing aids? Do you have a call coming in?

You can handle all those tasks with ease while adjusting the settings directly from your phone. ASHA won’t steal your battery life away, either, which means you can continue using all the advantages that come along with this technology.
