When it comes to the maintenance of your hearing aids, there are tools you can purchase and instructions you can follow to keep your device in tip-top shape. However, basic maintenance is not always enough. Since changes in your device’s performance and your hearing can occur over time, it’s essential to visit an audiologist for what we call a ‘clean & check.’
A simple clean and check in our San Antonio office can make a significant difference to your hearing and is an important step to maintaining the longevity of your device.
Since I have been working at Audicles Hearing Services, I have dealt with thousands of hearing aids that come in all shapes and sizes.
Some patients believe that their hearing aid is unfixable or maybe even broken and are shocked to see the difference following a clean & check!
It could be something as simple as ear wax getting caught in the filter or the microphone getting clogged, but whatever your concerns, our team is expertly trained in hearing aid devices and will always find a solution to the problem.
What’s Included In a Clean & Check?
During your appointment, we will thoroughly clean your hearing aid and replace any domes, filters, and sports locks with new pieces. This ensures that nothing is blocking your hearing passageway and allows you to capture a more clear and coherent sound.
This also includes checking for defective or loose receivers or clogged microphone covers, which we will replace if needed.
Once the hearing aid has been fully cleaned, we perform an electroacoustic analysis of the hearing aid to ensure that the aid is providing appropriate gain and output with minimal distortion or noise.
Another thing we check for is ear wax to see if this could be blocking your hearing. If we do find a build-up, it is a simple, non-invasive procedure that can be done in our office.
During the visit, we are also able to provide any appropriate software updates for your hearing aids, run the feedback manager and troubleshoot problems with the connection between your hearing aids and smartphone.
Technology is continuing to improve, and we will always keep up with advancements and follow updates to your device if we feel you would benefit from it.
What Devices/ Brands Do You Look At?
It doesn’t matter where you got your hearing aid from, we are able to perform a clean and check on just about any hearing aid that is available.
Although we have experience with most manufacturers, we may not be able to provide replacement domes, filters, sports locks or receivers for hearing aids other than ReSound, Oticon or Phonak brands.
For all of this, including a clean & check, updates to your software and electroacoustic analysis, the fee is $50, which is just a small fraction compared to the award-winning service at Audicles Hearing Services.
If a non-patient would like to make an appointment with an audiologist for a hearing evaluation or hearing aid adjustment, the appointment would cost $75.
Maintaining Performance and Longevity
Hearing aids are very delicate pieces of technology that have very complex processing systems. This means that it is extremely important to have regular check-ups and cleans to ensure that your device is functioning to its best ability.
Not only that, but with your hearing a priority, it allows you to continue to hear clearly and engage in conversations in all environments.
We encourage all patients and non-patients to take advantage of this beneficial service.
