When Was The Last Time That You Had Your Hearing Tested?
One of our biggest frustrations as San Antonio’s leading team of doctors of audiology is that as a nation, we all regularly have our teeth checked, our cholesterol tested, and our blood pressure tested – but rarely do we consider to have our hearing tested.
This means that we often see patients when it’s too late and are tasked with preventing their hearing loss from worsening rather than being able to catch a hearing loss early and enable the patient to maximize their hearing health.
With the latest statistics showing that 1 in 8 Americans have a hearing loss, it’s inevitable that you or a loved one will be experiencing signs of hearing loss, whether today or in the near future.
At Audicles, our team has been caring for the San Antonio’s hearing health since 1944, caring for thousands upon thousands of patients and generations of families.
Our big message since the day we opened our doors has always been that if you believe that you or a loved one are experiencing signs of hearing loss, then come and have your hearing tested.
The sooner we can treat it, the sooner we can care for it.

What Happens at a Hearing Assessment?
1. Let's Get to Know You
The first part of your hearing assessment is what they don’t train in school – it’s looking you in the eye and having a heartfelt conversation so that we can get to understand you.
What are the reasons that bring you to us? What is bothering you? How is your hearing impacting your day-to-day life?
Having this conversation allows us to understand you, understand what your biggest frustrations are, and allows us to tailor our approach to your hearing care.
2. Let's Have a Look in Your Ears
The first stage of your hearing assessment is to have a look in your ears using an otoscope.
Sometimes we find that there is a build-up of earwax that is causing hard of hearing and on a few occasions, we’ve found that further medical treatment is required.
But we’re taking a look to ensure everything looks healthy and there’s nothing that is clearly blocking your ear canals.
3. Start Your Hearing Assessment
You’ll take a seat in our sound booth (it’s like your own personal recording studio!) – you’ll wear some headphones and we’ll play a range of sounds at different frequencies.
All you have to do is let us know when you hear a sound.
This allows us to measure what frequencies that you can hear and the frequencies that you can’t hear.
It’s quick, it’s non-invasive, and the results are available immediately.
4. Plot Your Audiogram Results
You’ll then sit back down with one of our doctors of audiology to plot your results on an Audiogram and discuss the outcome of your hearing assessment.
Often we find that your hearing is perfectly fine, we thank you for visiting us, and you’re invited to book your next hearing assessment for the following year.
But in the cases where we discover that you have a hearing loss, we’ll discuss your options in a friendly, relaxed environment and explain how Audicles can help.
